| Decorative wildfowl carver, Beau Nelson, resides on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and is a native of Salisbury, Maryland. Many of his early years were spent in Crisfield observing many local carvers at work while his father, know locally as "Skeet" performed his skill as an auditor to the local seafood businesses. This early beginning led him to his craft as an adult - as a cabinet maker. In 1996, after a local carver failed to pick up an order of basswood, Beau began carving! | ![]() |
| As a self-taught artist, he has perfected his craft through many hours of hard work. His expertly detailed and painted wildfowl, birds of prey, song birds, and yes-even fish are true pieces of art! Each piece is mounted and signed - the mounts reflecting the natural habitat of their subjects. (Click to see the carvings available for sale) |

Harvey "Beau" Nelson, a cabinet maker, started carving in 1996 after special ordering some wood for a customer who never came to get it. For a long time, Nelson said, he left the wood sitting to one side of his shop. However, he grew frustrated with the expense and decided to use it himself. "I kept looking at that wood," Nelson said. "So I bought a book (on carving), and I've been doing it ever since. Nelson still has that first duck he carved. He said he looks at it often and sometimes cringes at the errors he made. But, he added, the experts suggest carvers always keep their first effort to see how they improve over time, and he likes the progress he has made. Nelson did not have any art background except for his cabinet work. He has worked as a cabinet maker since he left high school in the '70s. |
